Animal therapy boosts patients' recovery time

he newest staff member of the DeKalb (GA) Medical Center's Recreational Therapy Department has four legs and a great attitude. His morning is filled with appointments, patients and rehabilitation exercises. But there is always time for aquick break and a snack -- usually a dog biscuit.

Cito (above) is a purebred five-year-old German Shepherd therapy dog, with an international passport. Iris Grimm (above), who coordinates DeKalb Medical Center's animal therapy program in Decatur, GA, says Cito and other therapy dogs also have a profound emotional impact on recovering patients.
